Since we take Jesus’ teaching seriously, we take our children’s ministry seriously. Kids ministry workers have the privilege of seeing unhindered faith.
When Jesus wanted to demonstrate what it looked like to follow him well, He found a child, and told us to trust Him, just like the kids did. The force of this teaching should give us pause.
Imago Dei’s Kids Ministry has three primary values: the centrality of the gospel, the primacy of the family, and the safety of the children.
We believe that the gospel is central to the Christian faith. So we are making the gospel central to our kids ministry. While teaching children good morals and memorizing Bible stories has value, the gospel still must be central. Noah’s Ark has far more to do with judgment and mercy than it does animals and rainbows. We want to make sure that our children are pointed to Jesus through every story, because we believe that every story ultimately points to Him already. After all, Jesus said that we are to let the little children come to Him.
Further, the God’s Word makes it clear that the primary place for the discipleship of children is in the home. We have positioned our kids ministry to come along side parents, helping them bring up their children in the faith. Positioning kids ministry to support rather than drive family discipleship, we believe families will be strengthened. Strong families make up strong churches. And strong churches will make strong cities!
Even though we believe that our God is a God of redemption, we must still take all of the necessary precautions to make sure our children are safe. No one serves in kids ministry without having a background check done first. And no one is allowed in the kids ministry areas except the scheduled staff and the parents who have dropped off their kids. Further, we utilize a check in system that helps to ensure proper care of every child.
